The Limerick Leprechauns are celebrating 30 years of continuous charitable events.
Limerick Leprechauns RFC will be hosting their annual rugby match on August 13th 2022 with proceeds from this year’s event being donated to the Ukrainian Integration Fund.
The funds raised will be donated directly to the Ukrainian families who have fled to Ireland since the beginning of the war, with Kilkee hosting hundreds of families to the town and integrating them into their community.
The Leprechauns, who will out tog out against a Kilkee Fallen Stars team on the day, have raised over €1,000,000 in their 30 year existence by hosting several events throughout the year. Other organisations such as Pieta House, Milford Hospice and Tipperary Cancer Support Centre have also benefitted from their charitable deeds.
The annual summer match is their highlight of the year and Leprechauns’ president John Fanning is delighted to be raising money for the Ukrainian families and urges people to take a visit on the day.
“I would encourage as many people as possible to come along and support our annual match. It is always a fabulous family day out for former greats of the game to participate, in what is both a tough physical encounter but a fun event as well.”
Former Leprechauns’ President Vinny Ryan also had his say on the event, and is hopeful that this year will be one of their best events thus far.
“It’s a tag event in which the Limerick Leprechauns take on a Kilkee Selection, and everyone is encouraged to take part and to participate in supporting this unique occasion.”
This year, the match will also see the Leprechauns remember one of Limerick Rugby’s greats Ken Rennison, who sadly passed away last January as the teams will play for the Ken Rennison Memorial trophy.
Limerick Leprechauns RFC was set up to enable former giants of the game to continue to play rugby and at the same time help a number of good causes within their community throughout the Mid West.
The event will take place at 2pm on Saturday August 13th with players being asked to meet at the beach for 1pm. All are welcome to watch and support a great cause.
