UL Ladies claim Division 1 League honours

Last night the UL Ladies Football team won the Division 1 League title after a 3-10 to 1-7 win over DCU in the University of Limerick.

Cork’s Eimear Scally was awarded Player of the Match as UL head into the new year hoping to retain their O’Connor Cup crown.

UL’s Hannah O’Donoghue opened the scoring with a well taken goal as the home side moved into a 1-4 to 0-4 lead within twenty minutes.

Just before half-time, Scally notched her goal to push their lead out to 2-6 to 0-4 as they took control of the game.

As they did in the first, UL would open their scoring account for the half with a goal, captain Shauna Howley getting on the scoresheet.

Ten minutes later and the lead was out to 3-8 to 0-4 before three consecutive points from the Dublin side reduced the deficit.

UL would score a brace of points to stop the rot before DCU got a consolation goal in additional time.

Shauna Howley would collect the O’Rourke at the final whistle with UL finishing 2019 as League and Championship winners.
