UL power past SETU Carlow and into Sigerson Cup quarter-finals

Last year’s finalists UL powered into the Sigerson Cup quarter-final with a powerful home display against Carlow.

UL returned to winning ways to book their place in the Sigerson Cup quarter-finals at SETU Carlow’s expense on Wednesday evening.

After letting a large lead slip against TU Dublin the previous week, the hosts powered to the finish line in a dominant 4-10 to 1-4 display in Castletroy.

Declan Brouder’s men were 0-7 to 0-2 to the good at the half before finding their goal radar in the final half hour. Last year’s finalists will return to the quarters alongside MTU Cork, who were also victorious on Wednesday, University of Galway, St Mary’s Belfast, DCU and TU Dublin with the final two places to be decided later today.

Emmet McMahon was scorer in chief in the first half with four from play. Aaron Griffin was the first to find the net with Ciaran Downes then adding a double. Limerick’s Tommy Griffin had a goal in reply for Carlow but UL’s Sean McDonnell grabbed the final three-pointer to put a gloss on the result.

Limerick’s John Hayes pointed from the bench for the second successive week for UL.

Elsewhere, Dylan O’Connor, Eanna O’Hanlon and David O’Connor goaled MTU Cork to victory in their clash with ATU Sligo on the same evening as it finished 3-12 to 2-7.

This evening, UCC take on Queens while Ulster University meet UCD.
