UL’s Fitzgibbon Cup quarter-final clash with UCD confirmed

The Limerick side are the defending champions and favourites to retain the title for the eighth time.

The University of Limerick’s Fitzgibbon Cup quarter-final with UCD has been confirmed for Thursday, February 9 in Castletroy. UL are the reigning champions and heavy favourites to retain their title.

Brian Ryan’s men have won both of their fixtures thus far, beating ATU Galway by 13 and TUS Midwest 2-24 to 1-13 in an all-Limerick derby.

UL are Limerick’s sole representative remaining after TUS Midwest and Mary I were knocked out in the group stages.

UCD were defeated 0-19 to 0-13 by UCC on Thursday evening but had already booked passage to the last eight after their win over Maynooth in round one.

Last year’s finalists Univeristy of Galway meet SETU Carlow while Barry Hennessy’s SETU Waterford meet DCU. UCC face ATU Galway in the other quarter-final.

The final is fixed for Saturday February 19 in Carlow IT.
