Limerick FC took a 2-1 lead into the 2002 League Cup Final second leg against Derry City at the Brandywell back on April 11th 2002 but would go on to win the cup on penalties in dramatic fashion.
Derry levelled the tie on aggregate with a 73rd minute spot kick following a foul on substitute Jamie Hughes by Pat Purcell. Liam Coyle stepped up to send Jimmy Fyffe the wrong way and fired to the back of the net.
