Aisling Annacotty manager Mike Aherne was pleased with the character shown by his side to defeat previously unbeaten Ballynanty Rovers in Annacotty on Thursday evening.
Annacotty went ahead early on through the experienced campaigner Shane Clarke before being pegged back by an own goal and a brilliant solo effort from former Limerick FC man Connor Ellis.
However, the home side refused to give up and grabbed a great equaliser through Shane Donegan before Nathan O’Cllaghan won it for last season’s FAI Junior Cup semi-finalists with one of the early contenders for goal of the season which sparked wild celebrations from the home side.
Aherne felt his side made it harded for themselves than it needed to be following a dominant first half display but was delighted with the win.
It’s a great result. We were 2-1 down with six minutes to go and we came back and won it. It’s taken us a year of trying and pushing to eventually getting a great result.
You could see the goal from the corner and we spent 14 months working on that alone.
