WATCH | “All our focus for the next few weeks will be on Championship” | John Kiely looks ahead to Munster after League conclusion

Limerick rounded out their League campaign with a win over Offaly on Sunday in the TUS Gaelic Grounds.

Limerick cruised past Offaly by 4-29 to 0-17 to condemn the Leinster side to the relegation play-offs whilst picking up a much needed maiden win this Spring in the League.

Discussing their first win of the game, Limerick manager John Kiely, said his side were much better in all aspects with their accuracy, organization, communication pleasing to the Galbally man.

“I think our energy levels were really high, I think our organization skills communication skills were really good today aswell which is a massive plus and we created a lot more scoring chances, probably more than the last two games put together.

“It’s all about our own markers absolutely 100%, it didn’t matter who we were playing today , we were going after our own markers in terms of what we wanted to achieve from the game and from our perspective we hope that we achieve all of those.

“Our shooting efficiency has been really low in the league today I’m sure it was very high, that’s a really good positive to take from the game, we created a lot of scoring chances we haven’t been doing that throughout the league and our work rate was really high which we haven’t had during the league.”

The result concludes the League campaign for Limerick who could have been facing into a relegation play off were they to lose to Offaly.

Now, Kiely and co will shift their attention to the Munster Hurling Championship clash with Cork on April 17 in Pairc Ui Chaoimh.

Cork are currently preparing for the League final but for Limerick, the year so far has been building to that game with Cork according to Kiely.

“Everything has been geared towards the 17th in any case so I suppose I’m really looking at building it week on week and taking it in small chunks and the last three weeks for me have been a really positive period for us and I know that I can see the energy is there, that the freshness is there and I think it’s just a case of keeping our foot down and working hard together as a group.

“They change programs as they go through the course of the year so I can see that bit of freshness, the bit of energy increasing with every session now and that’s where we want to be four weeks out from championship.”
