WATCH: Another week another ref well on top of the rugby laws!

Ulster’s Robert Baloucoune is a very lucky man after escaping a clear red card in the opening minute of his side’s Pro14 clash with Munster following a reckless tackle on Darren Sweetnam.

Straight from the kick off Baloucoune took Sweetnam out while he was in the air accelerating through the tackle and at no stage trying to pull out of the collision or bring his opponent to ground safely.

Let’s get a few things straight here, the spirit of the law is relevant, the actual law is. It was a red card, Baloucoune’s age, intention or the time in which he committed the offence are also not relevant. Commentators and pundits saying that it would ruin the game are doing the game a disservice. Player safety is paramount a this was a red card all day long.

Yet again Munster find themselves on the end of a referee who is not as familiar with the laws of the game as he should be.
