Limerick’s first win in Pairc Ui Chaoimh in nineteen years moved Limerick one step closer to the knockout stages of the National Hurling League yesterday.
Limerick were imperious in the first half and held a 0-17 to 0-11 lead with Patrick Horgan keeping Cork somewhat in touch with his frees.
However, Cork came out a different beast in the second half and quickfire goals from Shane Kingston and Aidan Walsh saw them into the lead with heading into the final ten minutes.
To their credit Limerick remained calm and outscored Cork 0-8 to 0-3 down the final stretch to earn the victory.
Limerick legend Ciarán Carey praised the side for their mental fortitude in sealing the deserved victory.
“To be fair to them, they played well. Their possession keeping was class and they showed great maturity when Kingston got the goal and Walsh got a goal but they never panicked and stuck to the process.”
