As the 2019/2020 junior soccer season begun, there weren’t many things we could be certain of. Outside of certain clubs challenging for league honours and gripes with referees, the Limerick District League can throw up some surprises. One of the biggest surprises was the departure of Shane Clarke from boyhood club Janesboro.
The experienced striker joined Aisling Annacotty in one of the most sudden and surprising transfers and it was the talk among Limerick junior football enthusiasts. Despite rumours to the contrary, Clarke insists that he joined the club for the right reasons and with the future in mind.
“It was really down to myself and thinking about my future really. When you look at this club and schoolboy teams training nearly every hour, It’s a good place to be if you’re a schoolboy and I just want to be involved in it for as long as possible. I am really enjoying it so far.”
Clarke and his relatively new set of teammates will face an in form Geraldines side at home in the FAI Junior Cup on Saturday evening (7pm) in what is sure to be a great spectacle for the Limerick soccer public.
The Irish junior international also praises the quality of the Limerick District League Oscar Traynor squad which has been selected. Clarke will be a player/coach with the team after captaining former club Janesboro to Oscar Traynor success last season.
