Declan Considine is an extremely popular figure among Limerick soccer enthusiasts at both junior and senior level. He had a distinguished playing career with Granville Rangers, Limerick FC, Fairview Rangers and Pike Rovers among others. He also led Pike Rovers to their finest hour in 2011, capturing the FAI Junior Cup title as manager.
It was the club’s greatest success and although they have come close since, they have not won the FAI Junior Cup. Considine recalls a great day when Keith Harnett’s 89th minute winner sealed a 1-0 victory over St. Michaels.
“You could see what the win meant to the likes of the Lipper’s, the O’Donovan’s, and the Waters. There was huge pressure on the club as we had a long history and Fairview had won many FAIs.
We started off that season training with 7 players. The year before we had been thrown out after an arbitration hearing also and for those players to go on and win an FAI that year deserves huge credit.”
Declan also goes on to talk about his glittering career at junior level and his current riles with the FAI and Athlone Town.
