Crescent College Comprehensive are Munster Girls Senior A Hockey champions after a dramatic victory over Mount Mercy College in Garyduff Sports Centre.
The game, which was streamed live on Sporting Limerick, in association with So Hockey finished 1-1 in regular time but the Limerick school came out victorious by virtue of penalty shuttles.
Mount Mercy took an early lead in the game when Aoife O’Driscoll took advantage of an error in the Crescent defence to fire past Amy Aherne.
Crescent eventually settled into the game with Robyn Leahy, Aoife Hickey and Anna Horan to the fore.
Cathal Duggan’s side would have gotten back into the game earlier only for the outstanding performance of Ciara Buckley in the Mount Mercy goal.
Mount Mercy held onto their advantage going into the second half but Crescent got back on level terms thanks to Leah Cleary.
She made a superb run through the Mount Mercy defence and fired past Buckley from an acute angle to square the game.
Neither side was able to hit the target again but it was Cleary again that proved to be the hero for Crescent.
After two missed penalty shuttles, Cleary kept her cool to beat Buckley. Saoirse Griffin levelled for Mount Mercy but Elle Sorenson then put Crescent 2-1 ahead.
Aherne then forced Susy Uniacke to put her shot wide with Mount Mercy’s last shuttle and Crescent were crowned champions.
After the game, Crescent coach Cathal Duggan spoke to Sporting Limerck.
