WATCH: Declan Hannon “There’s a lot of leaders in the dressing room”

Current Limerick captain Declan Hannon was merely a young fan when Limerick last reached the All Ireland final. Back in 2007, Limerick came up against one of the greatest teams of all time in Kilkenny when they lost 2-19 to 1-15. Kilkenny started much the brighter that day and opened up a 2-3 to 0-0 lead after ten minutes. Speaking about the game Hannon said.

“They came up against a Kilkenny side that were at the peak of their powers. Any team that came up against Kilkenny that year got beaten… It’s different when you’re involved, you have to take yourself away from everything outside of the game.”

The build up to this final has been much different with Limerick under John Kiely looking like a far more focused side. Despite the age profile of the squad, much has been made about the maturity of the squad, something Hannon agrees on.

“The boys are fantastic. They’re so dedicated so its easy managed. There’s a lot of leaders in the dressing room so they have made my life much easier.”
