WATCH: Doon manager ready for “two teams willing to go hell-for-leather with each other.”

Doon contest their first county final since 2000 this Saturday evening when they face defending champions Na Piarsaigh in the Gaelic Grounds at 7.30. The east club will be looking for a first ever Senior Championship win while their opponents are seeking a fifth title this decade.

For manager Tom Murphy, it is no surprise to see these teams battle it out at the final hurdle for the first time. Having contested four Premier U21 finals in recent years, the production levels in both clubs is at a high level, something which Murphy acknowledges.

“Since I came to Doon back in the early 2000’s it’s alwaysbeen Doon, Na Piarsaigh, Kilmallock and all these teams fighting it out at the top level and all the way down to even U14 level.”

Although, Na Piarsaigh have got the better of Doon in the first round of the championship this year, Doon’s ten point victory over the Caherdavin team in the League final will surely have inspired confidence in a Doon team that have lived up to expectations thus far this year.

“There’s a great rivalry there. We’ve played Na Piarsaigh two or three times already this year in the senior and the League and then we played them in U21. Its always been a good rivalry, never any dirty strokes pulled, or any major rows. Two teams willing to go hell-for-leather with each other.”

“Either team can win on the day and that’s the way it should be”
