WATCH | Graham Shine “utterly disappointed” after league final loss to Offaly

Limerick remain in Division 4 next year following tough defeat to Offaly at the weekend in the league final.

The Limerick Ladies football side fell at the hands of Offaly on Sunday in the league final.

After scoring four goals the Limerick side could only manage four points in the defeat as the Offaly side kicked over an impressive 3-12.

Limerick led by a point at the break, 3-1 to 0-9 but in the end Offaly had five points to spare.

Nonetheless, the game could have gone either way as Offaly regrouped the better after Limerick’s fast start to secure the 3-12 to 4-4 win.

After the game, Limerick manager Graham Shine spoke of his disappointment on losing the final contest and missing out on promotion.

“Any day you’re going into final, you’re wanting to win it. Things didn’t go right today, playing Offaly on home ground that was an obstacle.

“We didn’t let that affect us, probably didn’t take our chances when we were on top of the game in the first half and to be honest in the third and fourth quarter, especially the third quarter, Offaly came out and got the few goals and look all credit to them and well deserved in the end.”

On Limerick’s struggle to find their scores:

“Frustrating more than anything that we were leaking those points. Look after the game things go to your mind and you have to reflect on things

But utterly disappointed for these bunch of girls. Disappointed that we lost no game in the league and we lose the final and we’re still down in division four next year so maybe that’s something the LGFA will look at in the future.”

“Two go up and two go down, I think it would make a better league and reward for the hard work the girls put in. We’re disappointed but we’ll move on.

“We can ask no more of them. We went out four times, we won four times and we come up short the last day and that’s where I think we should be rewarded for that.”

Looking to the championship:

“The girls are going to be sad and disappointed so we will give them time off, get a break and reflect.

We’ll go back and will have a meeting and we’ll refocus for championship and look it at the end of the day an All Ireland title is what you come in and look for.
