Limerick booked their place in a second All-Ireland final in three years yesterday as they overcame Galway 0-27 to 0-24 in Croke Park.
Limerick were 0-15 to 0-13 at half time but the sides were level as late as the 74th minute.
Three late points from Tom Morrissey would prove crucial as Limerick move into the December 13 final against Waterford in a repeat of the Munster final.
After the game, John Kiely admitted that his side had to “grind out the win”, but was pleased with the manner of the victory.
Diarmaid Byrnes was once again key to the Limerick cause with the half back contributing 0-3, as well as being a commanding figure in the half back line.
He said he is “delighted” to be back in the final “with loads to work on” for the Treaty men.
The Sunday Game man of the match award was given to Tom Morrissey for his haul of 0-6 during the contest.
The Ahane man was instrumental in the win but outlined that Limerick will need to improve for Waterford in the final.
For one Limerick native it would be a disappointing day as Shane O’Neill’s Galway side came up just short against the League and Munster champions.
The Caherdavin man said he was immensely proud of his sides performance despite the result.
