WATCH: John Kiely looking forward to “festival of hurling” next season

The Limerick Senior Hurling manager is relishing the challenge of the revamped hurling championship.

John Kiely is very much looking forward to a “festival of hurling” brought about by a total revamp to the 2018 hurling championship.

The move sees the Munster and Leinster championships contested on a round robin basis for the first time ever meaning Limerick will have two home and two away championship games for the foreseeable future.

For a county looking to build on the success of a seriously young and talented bunch of players, more high quality championship games can only benefit them going forward. Kiely is looking forward to the hectic schedule.

“To have four games over five weeks is a real challenge, I think it will bring a completely new dynamic to the championship and I think the supporters will really buy into it. It going to be such an exciting festival of hurling.”

“Players want to play games so their is going to be less training and more games and that can only be good for the game.”

Limerick face Tipperary at the Gaelic Grounds on May 20th in week 1. Limerick have a bye in week two. Round three offers Limerick GAA supporters the chance to visit the recently renovated Pairc Ui Chaoimh as they take on John Meyler’s Cork side.

Weeks four and five sees John Kiely and his charges face Waterford in the Gaelic Grounds on June 10th before making the short trip out to Ennis to face Clare in their last game on June 17th. The Munster final is set for July 1st 2017.
