WATCH | Limerick pick up first Camogie Championship win after hard fought battle with Offaly

In their first home game of the championship, John Lillis’ side saw off the Faithful challenge.

The Limerick senior camogie side picked up their first championship win of the season with a 0-11 to 0-9 win over Offaly in Cappamore on Saturday afternoon.

Lillis’ side are now fourth in the table with Kilkenny and Galway already assured of their places in the knockout stages.

Limerick lie one point behind Antrim who they face in the final round.

In Cappamore, Offaly got off the mark through Aisling Brennan but Caoimhe Lyons replied for the hosts with a driving run through the heart of the defence.

Sarah Harding restored Offaly’s lead but Caoimhe Costello was equal to the task with the first of her nine points of the day.

Mairead Teehan had the next score but again Costello restored parity on 21 minutes, at 0-3 apiece.

Sarah Harding and Costello exchanged scores as the teams looked set to enter the dressing rooms level.

However, Offaly found a pair of scores in injury time to take a 0-6 to 0-4 lead into the interval.

Offaly stretched that advantage to three from Christine Cleary but by the time they next found the target, Limerick had moved ahead.

It took ten minutes for Limerick to get their first score of the half but Costello’s free was quickly followed by a well taken effort from Mairead Ryan.

Costello found the leveller just a minute later as they took the lead from the Adare native with a quarter of an hour to play.

However, Offaly’s response was instantaneous as the sides were deadlocked at 0-8 apiece.

Costello gave Limerick the lead but like their visitors in the first half, Offaly were up to the task as they brought it level once more.

Costello regained the initiative for Limerick with four minutes to go and then she had their first two point lead of the day with a spectacular effort on 57 minutes.

Offaly battled for scores but Limerick held firm to secure the win and pick up a first victory of the season.

Up next for John Lillis’ side is Down at home in a fortnight.
