WATCH – Limerick Rise Up – A journey to the National Elite finals.
Three Limerick boxers will travel to Dublin to take part in the showpiece of Irish amateur boxing this Saturday as the National Elite Championship finals get underway at the National Stadium.
Kevin Sheehy of St Francis Boxing Club secured his place in next week’s heavyweight final following victory over Liam Greene of South Meath. The Limerick boxer has since been invited to train for the Ireland team for the European U22’s being held in Romania at the end of March.
Sheehy, who claimed National and under 22 titles as of late will fight Kiril Afanasev of Smithfield in the heavyweight decider.
While Martin Keenan of Rathkeale Boxing Club will defend have the chance to defend his title on Saturday National at the National Stadium in Dublin.
The Rathkeale BC super-heavy beat Dubliner John McDonnell on a unanimous decision to set up a clash with former Irish Elite Champions Dean Gardiner.
Gardiner and Keenan clashed in a box off for a place at the European Elites last year with the Rathkeale man losing out in a close fight.
Rathkeale will have two representatives on the night as Nell Fox takes on Aglish fighter Lisa Browne.
Like Sheehy, Fox is going for three titles in three months and her 13th national title overall.
