WATCH: Mungret’s Cian O’Brien and Liam Cronin look ahead to PIHC opener against Murroe Boher

The Lyons of Limerick Premier Intermediate Championship kicks off this weekend with a full set of fixtures.

For Mungret St Pauls it will be a case of learning from last year as they fell to Kildimo Pallaskenry in the decider.

KP themselves lost the 2019 final before earning promotion 12 months later.

For captain Cian O’Brien however, nothing is guaranteed despite their favourites as they meet relegated Murroe Boher in the opener.

“There’s no guarantees, it’s the kind of competition that you could find yourself at the bottom as soon as you could find yourself at the top.”

“I think we’re in a really good place, we’ve trained really well, got a couple of really competitive games in the league and played some really good challenge matches but you don’t know how your set until you get to championship.”

“Murroe are a strong side. They’ll have learned a lot from playing senior for the last couple of years and they’ll want to go straight back up but again I think if we play as we can that we should get over them hopefully.”

His manager Liam Cronin echoed these statements as Mungret aim to go one better than 2020, starting with Murroe Boher on Friday evening.

“The final last year, was last year. It’s well publicised how competitive this competition is, we’ve a long way to get back to where we were last year and it starts Friday night against Murroe Boher.

“While we didn’t win any finals last year, the fact that the minors were in a county final as well just means that there is that conveyor belt of talent coming through”
