WATCH: Munster grind out 19-13 away win over Ospreys

Munster maintained top position in Conference A of the Pro14 courtesy of a hard fought and gritty 19-13 win over Ospreys in Wales this evening.

Their lead at the top was however reduced to just one point as Glasgow cursed to a 43-17 bonus point win over Connacht at Scotstoun.

In what ultimately a poor game of rugby, Munster got off to a flyer with Darren Sweetnam crossing for his 4th try of the season following a sweeping move.

Hanno Dirksen struck back for the home side in the 19th minute when he took advantage of a Munster error as Rhys Marshall failed to gather a kick through.

Munster would reply before half time with a penalty try which saw Sam Cross get his marching orders for ten minutes.

Ospreys reduced the arrears to just a single point through a Luke Price penalty in the 63rd minute but Munster agains stretched the lead. Following a series of patient plays, Mike Haley was in acres of space on the left wing to dive over for their 3rd try. Hanrahan would have been disappointed with the missed conversion and it remained a one point game.

With two minutes on the clock Ospreys had an excellent line out platform to launch an attack from but Tadgh Beirne stole the throw and drew a crucial penalty allowing Munster to clear their lines.

Munster did have a chance at one last attack in search of the bonus point but Alby Mathewson thought better of it and kicked the ball dead to end the game and take the 4 match points.

While Munster will be pleased with the win, the will know that there is room for serious improvement ahead of next week’s game away to Scarlets on Saturday at 5pm.
