Jean Kleyn’s try proved to be the difference as Munster came out victorious against the Dragons on an 8-7 scoreline at Rodney Parade.
The Dragons led 7-3 at half time thanks to Lloyd Fairbrother’s try that Josh Lewis converted. Bill Johnston accounted for Munster’s points from the kicking tee.
Stephen Archer looked to have touched down for a Munster try on the stroke of half time but it was not awarded after referee Ben Blaine consulted with his TMO.
Meaningful action was hard to come by throughout the 80 minutes due to extremely wet conditions in Newport.
However, Munster managed to pile on the pressure and with the Dragons down to 14, Kleyn eventually got the reward after Johnston’s quick tap penalty.
Lewis had the chance to put the Dragons back in front with a penalty a couple of minutes later but he skewed his effort wide.
Munster managed to win a couple of penalties towards the end and held on for a hard fought win.
