After the departures of scrum-half pair Duncan Williams and James Hart, Munster announced the acquisition of Leinster no.9 at the end of last season.
The former U20 Irish captain will come into a stacked scrum-half division at the Province including Conor Murray, Neil Cronin and promising Academy graduate Craig Casey.
In the midst of a tough pre-season, Munster Rugby caught up with the scrum-half to see how he has been adjusting to the new set-up.
“It’s been great. Training has been tough. At the start, you’d be anxious making the move down but the boys have made an unbelievable effort to help me integrate in.”
With the World Cup on the horizon, McCarthy will have the chance to impress for Munster with Conor Murray on International duty.
However, he is well aware of the challenge at hand with high-level performances needed each week to cement a place in an extremely competitive Munster squad.
“Everyday, every training, just play as well as I can to put myself in the best possible position to be picked.”
