Former Limerick FC manager Noel O’Connor has taken up a new role with Limerick District Schoolboy League Kennedy Cup squad, with the annual tournament starting on Tuesday June 11th at the University of Limerick.
Normally, the tournament would start on a Monday and finish with the final being played on a Friday afternoon. However, due to Ireland’s Euro 2020 qualifier against Gibraltar on Monday, the organisers made the sensible decision to change the date which means that the final will now take place on a Saturday.
O’Connor has managed various senior sides in his career including a long association with Mary Immaculate College. He revealed how the appointment came about.
Interestingly enough it came about at the Limerick FC and Finn Harps play-off game which we don’t like to remember. Pat Dolan (former St. Patricks Athletic and Cork City manager) was in the executive box with some of the local schoolboy committee members.
The conversation ensued as to how hard it was to find a manager and Pat Dolan in his wisdom recommended me. I parked it until the 1st of January because December is a busy time for me and we got going then and I’ve really enjoyed it.
Noel also speaks about the experience he has recruited for the competition including Aidan Ryan and Dave Mahedy as well as the opposition the team will face.
