WATCH: O’Donoghue looking for Regional players to express themselves

Regional United face a massive challenge on Sunday when they face favourites Sheriff YC in the FAI Junior Cup in Dooradoyle (2pm).

Sherriff are perennial winners of the competition have contested three finals in the last four years, winning two of those.

Regional last reached the quarter final of the FAI Junior Cup in 2009 and captain Kieran O’Connell had just broke into the junior ranks at that stage. O’Connell has been trying to relay all his experience and is confident about the ability of the current squad.

The talent in the 2009 squad was of a very high standard but it’s also of a very high standard for this squad. The squad we had back then was more mature.

I was only 18 back then and now I’m the most experienced person in the team. There are some great lads here now that have a lot of experience at League of Ireland level. These are games that you just don’t want to lose
