Pike Rovers play in their third FAI Junior Cup final in seven years this Saturday when they face North End United of Wexford at 2pm in the Aviva Stadium. Pike’s maiden success came in 2011 but they were unsuccessful last time out when they were beaten by Sheriff YC in 2014.
Pike reached the decider courtesy of an extra time, 3-2 victory over Newmarket Celtic, when Cian Power’s goal in additional time saw them overcome a tough test from the Clare side.
Pike have also defeated Shannon Town, Dungarvan FC, Regional United, Kilfrush Crusaders, Carew Park and Charleville in on route to the final and are bidding for their second FAI Junior Cup triumph in their fourth final, seeking to add to their 2011 success in the competition. North End United are yet to win a FAI Junior Cup title.
It has since been reported on Limerick’s Live 95FM that Shiel is now due to miss the final due to a suspension picked following the semi-final win over Newmarket.
“We’re obviously looking to win it. We were looking to win it the last time but just didnt have enough on the day, Sheriff were better on the day. We took our beating that day but hopefully we can turn it around this Saturday.”
