Glenroe will be playing in the Premier Intermediate Hurling Championship in 2020 following a 1-13 to 0-10 win over Newcastle West in the Intermediate decider in Kilmallock.
Captain Mark O’Connell starred for Danny Murphy’s side with 0-8. Glenroe led 1-9 to 0-7 at half time, with Brian O’Connell landing the game’s only goal.
The south Limerick side continued to edge proceedings in the second half and were worthy victors.
Former Limerick and Dublin hurler, Maurice O’Brien, was coach to the Glenroe team this year and was delighted to help out a club that has become close to his heart after relocating to Ballylanders in recent times.
“It means a lot for me to be part of them and to give them a hand in getting over the line. They’re a great bunch of lads. A special group.
“They have been unlucky in the last couple of years with semi final losses. We are going to enjoy this one. It was a fantastic win and I’m really happy for the whole community.”

Mark O’Connell also spoke to Sporting Limerick following Glenroe’s six point win. O’Connell played a key role from placed balls throughout the contest, but also created the crucial goal for his brother Brian.
The half forward spoke of his pride in leading the side to glory and how much he was looking forward to playing in the PIHC next year.
“It means absolutely everything. From a young age hurling with my brother out the back and my dad.
“We are a very small parish. We have no school. All we have is the GAA club and a church. To captain the boys has been a privilege.
“We are all leaders on the field. I just got the nomination this year. Every so thankful to absolutely everyone who gave me the opportunity to do that.”
