WATCH: Relive Munster’s historic win over the All Blacks forty years ago today

On 31 October 1978 Munster welcomed the New Zealand Rugby team to Thomond Park. What followed was arguably the greatest win in the Provinces storied History as Munster came away with an historic 12-0 victory.

With Thomond packed to capacity, 12,000 witnessed the game live where Munster stood toe to toe with the best team in rugby and kept them scoreless.

Christy Cantillon got the games only try in the opening half with Tony Ward contributing a conversion and a brace of drop goals to seal the victory.

On the fortieth anniversary of the game, Munster Rugby have released a video clip of Cantillon’s remarkable try that would prove to be a catalyst in the win.

40 years ago today the mighty All Blacks marched into Thomond Park and were engulfed by a red tide. A day that will live forever.
