With Thomond packed to capacity, 12,000 witnessed the game live where Munster stood toe to toe with the best team in rugby and kept them scoreless.
Christy Cantillon got the games only try in the opening half with Tony Ward contributing a conversion and a brace of drop goals to seal the victory.
On the fortieth anniversary of the game, Munster Rugby have released a video clip of Cantillon’s remarkable try that would prove to be a catalyst in the win.
