Limerick’s Shane Dowling sat down with with SportsChronicle as part of their Littlewoods #StyleOfPlay series and spoke candidly about how the ups and downs of hurling affect him as well as his ambitions to bring an All Ireland title back to Limerick.
“When Davy Russell, one of my sporting heroes, won the Grand National this year he said I’ve won this race a thousand times in my head and in my dreams.
“I smiled when he said that because I’ve won an All-Ireland with Limerick 10,000 times in my head but still not in reality. Will it happen or not? Who knows, but what I can tell you is that it won’t be for the lack of trying.”
The Na Piarsaigh club man goes on to say how the game defines him but that life experience has given him perspective as he has gotten older.
“Hurling defines me but only when everything else is right because I will always make sure that everything off the pitch is right first; and I will always look after my family first and I will look after my job first and my friends first. And then hurling can define me”.
