WATCH | Shannon return to the top flight as they see off Naas in Division 1B Final

The Limerick side ensured their return to the top flight with a dominant performance in the Division 1B final.

Shannon are back in the top tier of the AIL after they defeated Naas 30-15 in the Division 1B Play-Off final in Coonagh on Saturday afternoon.

The Limerick side return to Division 1A after a three year absence following their relegation in 2019.

Their return to the top flight ensures more Limerick derbies for the 2022/23 season as they join Young Munster and Garryowen in that regard.

Out-half Jake Flannery was Shannon’s hero on the day as contributed 20 of his side’s tally.

Shannon took an early lead with a try from David Maher which Flannery converted.

Flannery then dominated the remainder of the half with a penalty, try and a conversion handing the home side a 17-3 ahead at the interval.

From here, Shannon’s promotion rarely looked in doubt as two penalties from Flannery and a conversion of a Josh Costello try ensured to push them 30-8 clear with less than ten to play.

Naas did get over for their second try late on but it was in vein as a huge home crowd celebrated at the final whistle with promotion to the top flight secured.
