WATCH: Spillane delighted with FAI Junior Cup victory

Coonagh United advanced to the last 32 of the FAI Junior Cup with the most dramatic of victories over Finglas in a sudden death penalty shoot-out on Sunday afternoon.

It looked as though John Spillane’s side were heading for a routine 2-0 victory over their Dublin counterparts as two goals from Ger Myles sent them on their way. However, Finglas scored two late goals to send the game to extra-time.

Amazingly, there were four more goals in extra-time as the away side’s number ten Daragh Brennan converted two penalties, scoring a hattrick of spot-kicks on the day.

Spillane is delighted to be through but knows his side made hard work of their progression.

“It was an unbelievable game. There was a defibrillator put into this ground recently and I thought the first time it would be used was today. It went to sudden death penalties and what a fantastic outcome for us.”
