WATCH: Spillane Ready to lead Coonagh into First top Flight Season

Coonagh United enter their first season as a Limerick District League Premier Division club in 2019/2020 following last year’s promotion from Division 1A as runners up. Coonagh begin with a home tie against Prospect Priory this Thursday (6.30).

The northside club have been operating under the radar somewhat in pre-season with little expected from them but they possess players with pedigree including former Limerick FC regular Martin Deady.

Spillane is delighted to be in charge as the club take on a new challenge after 48 years in existence.

We are delighted to have finally made it to the Premier Division. It has been a long time coming. The lads will say it has taken us ten years since the last time we were in Division 1A and we dropped right down to Division 4.

But we have worked our way back up and a lot of people have been involved in getting us to this point. We have been promoted 3 years in a row and finally made it into premier.

Spillane admitted that remaining in the top flight is the main aim this season and hinted that the change in league structure may benefit the club in their first appearance at this level.
