Young Munster earned the spoils and the local bragging rights as the cookies ran out 25-0 winners over Garryowen at Tom Clifford Park, to move to within 4 points of the light blues in the Division 1A table.
Shane Airey was quick to fire the home side into the lead with a well kicked penalty after 3 minutes. That was to remain the score line until just after the half hour mark when the fly-half added 3 more from the boot.
With a few minutes to go until the break prop Gavin Ryan went under the posts for the first try of the game, it was converted to make it 13-0 to the home side at half time.
A mauled try finished by club stalwart Ger Slattery on 55 minutes made it 18 nil, before Munster lock Fineen Wycherley powered through 13 minutes later for Young Munster’s third, following his introduction from the bench.
Garryowen will have a chance to make amends for the loss and to land some silverware when Conan Doyle’s side face into another Limerick derby in the Munster Senior Cup final, the location and date is now up in the air as the game, due to be played Friday, January, 12 has been postponed.
