Limerick FC picked up their second draw of the season on Friday night as they played out a 0-0 stalemate with Drogheda United at the Markets Field. Limerick have failed to score in their opening three games but have also kept two clean sheets.
Substitute Kieran Hanlon had Limerick’s best chance in injury time but he blazed a shot over the bar after a cross from Karl O’Sullivan. Hanlon made an impact when he came on and also had a headed effort saved by Paul Skinner.
Drogheda had a big penalty shout in the first half as Killian Brouder appeared to foul Chris Lyons in the box and despite having a lot of long range efforts, Luke Gallagher’s free header in the second half was their best chance of snatching victory.
The main talking point after the game was that only 420 turned out to the Markets Field despite over 800 paying in just two weeks ago. Tommy Barrett has urged locals to support his locally assembled squad.
We have to be positive. Last year we had lads playing full time and this year we have 17 amateur players. I don’t see us hammering anyone in the division its not like three years ago when we had a huge budget.
They are good young local lads that are getting lots of game time. Hopefully in the next year or two they get better and we can be competing at the top of the table,
