Billy Lee and his Limerick senior footballers are back in Munster championship action this Saturday as they welcome Waterford to the LIT Gaelic Grounds at 3pm.
It is the second successive meeting of the teams at this stage of the provincial championship with Limerick coming away from the Fraher Fields with a 2-14 to 0-9 win in 2020.
Last year, Limerick came into the game as Division 4 champions while this time around they will know they were only one game away from securing back to back promotions, losing out to eventual Division 3 winners Derry by four points a fortnight ago.
After such progressive league campaigns, Lee admits that his side must now sustain their momentum and build from their current standing, starting with the Deise this weekend.
“We’ve set a standard now for ourselves and what we expect from ourselves. A lot of focus will be on ourselves. But we are not underestimating Waterford. If you go back over the years you’ll see it’s been very tight, we just had the bounce of the ball. They’re not to be underestimated, we do that at our peril. We’ve to maintain the standards we have strived to get to.
“If you know what football is about, you’ll achieve success and Shane has proved that at the highest level. His record goes before him.”
“In the six or seven meetings we have had since I took charge we haven’t been on the wrong end of a result thank god, that’s going to have to change at some point so we’ve got to keep focused”
