In a repeat of last year’s All-Ireland quarter-final, the Deise ran out 21-point winners to make it three on the bounce in the league.
Waterford demonstrated why they are one of the dark horses for the championship and league favourites with a comprehensive victory over Limerick in the third round of the Very National Camogie league on Saturday afternoon.
The margin was 3-24 to 2-6 in favour of the Deise in De La Salle as Limerick’s wait for a first league win since 2021 continues.
The Shannonsiders actually grabbed the games first goal to take the lead early on with Claire Keatng finding the net to give Limerick a 1-1 to 0-2 advantage after Lizanna Boylan replied to the Deise’s opening score.
But from here, it was the Waterford ladies that controlled the contest, limiting Limerick to just two more scores in the remainder of the half to take a 0-15 to 1-3 lead into the interval.
Those scores came from Mairead Ryan and a Keating free. Caoimhe Costello opened her account after the resumption and tacked on a second shortly after with the sides going score for score.
However, Waterford bagged their first goal to move 14 points clear. They added another 1-2 before Limerick’s next score came, but it was a second green flag, Cliodhna Ryan hitting the net.
The hosts replied with their third goal and pushed further in front before Costello rounded out Limerick’s score in the heavy defeat that leaves Limerick rooted to the foot of the Division 1B table with two games remaining.
John Lillis’ side are in Down this Saturday against the Ulster side who have picked up just one win thus far.
