Newcastle West were crowned champions in 2021 as they beat Killeedy last November.
As the return of the Limerick Senior Camogie Championship approaches, Newcastle West are preparing to retain the crown they won for only the the second time in their history last year.
The side were victorious by four points in the 2021 final as they beat rivals Killeedy, a year after they were defeated in the final by their opponents.
All eyes are on 2022 now and Newcastle West’s Grace Lee spoke about her side’s preparation to retain their title at the launch event of the SCC, sponsored by Neville Jewellers.
[how they can retain their title] “I suppose hard work and dedication and do what we did last year. Train as hard as we can, gave every match our all and take each as match as they come.
“It’s the most important thing first to get out of our group and get a good result out of our group and then we’ll look towards semi-finals and finals.”
Newcastle West are joined by Granagh-Ballingarry, Na Piarsaigh as well as Bruff in their group, with the latter being their opening day opponents. Lee was full of praise for the side and expects a tough game against them.
“Bruff are an excellent team with some very experienced players but I suppose they also have a lot of young players that are up and coming as well.
“I know they had an awful lot of girls playing with Limerick as well this year so you know definitely a very capable team and we’ll have a lot to think about when we play them.”
Newcastle West face Bruff this Saturday in round one of the Neville Jewellers Senior Camogie Championship
