Week 2: Limerick District League Premier Division Round-Up

Pike Rovers were 1-3 victors over Charleville in Cork on Sunday morning as they raced into a 0-3 lead in the first half thanks to goals from Paudie Murphy, Colm Walsh-O’Loughlen and Mikey Conlon. Charleville replied in the second half as they battled valiantly for the majority of the second period. Adam Castle’s side will look to pick up their first points of the season when they face Mungret Regional while Pike Rovers host Janesboro with both games taking place on Thursday night.

Carew Park secured their second victory since their return to the Premier Division with a big 1-5 victory over Coonagh at Thomond Community College. The game was taking place away from Coonagh’s usual home pitch as drainage works continue on the pitch.

Johnathan Grant opened the scoring as he headed home from a free-kick delivery. Moments later, Mark Slattery profited from more slack marking as he headed home from a corner kick to double their lead. Arron Nunan made it 0-3 before the half-time break to double his account for the season. Further more marking from corner kicks will infuriate Paudie Hickey as Nunan and Gant added two more goals.

Gordon McKevitt replied for the home side who now travel to take on Nenagh in Tipperary on Thursday. Carew Park will entertain Ballynanty Rovers on the same night.

Kieran O’Connell grabbed a brace while Jack Arra scored his first goal since returning from Treaty Unied. Eoin Duff accounted for the fourth and final goal. Regional are back in action next Sunday when they travel to take on Munster Junior champions Fairview Rangers and Prospect travel to face the same opposition on this coming Thursday.

Aisling Annacotty and Janesboro were both hoping to build on big opening day victories when they faced off in Annacotty. The game was level for long periods and both teams were locked at 2-2 heading into the final 25 minutes. AJ Moloney and Tony Whitehead were on the scoresheet for Annacotty while Bradley McNamara and Jack Horan scored for Shane O’Hanlon’s side. However, Annacotty used their experience in the final quarter and goals from Shane Clarke (x2) and Adam Foley maintained their %100 start.

Aisling Annacotty will not play until next Sunday when they face Ballynanty Rovers in Annacotty while Janesboro will face near neighbours Pike Rovers on Thursday night.

Fairview Rangers kept their winning start going on Sunday but they were certainly made to work for it by Nenagh in Tipperary. A solitary goal from Connor Ellis which was his first in the colours of the Fairgreen outfit, gave the visitors the victory ahead of their home game against Prospect on Thursday.
