Effin were promoted to the Premier IHC after winning the Intermediate Hurling Final last year.
A new challenge is on the horizon for south Limerick side Effin as they begin their Premier IHC journey against Bruff this Saturday.
The side look to build on last year’s success, as they were the top team in the Intermediate Hurling championship last year, defeating Croagh-Kilfinny 0-21 to 0-15 in the final last October.
The championship has returned to its original format this year, with eight teams in a group all getting the opportunity to go face-to-face during its course.
Speaking at the championship launch event, Effin captain Jack Quaid welcomed the opportunity to face the better teams in the county and is determined to see the club drive on.
“You want to be playing against the best the whole time, it was good to win it last year and good now to drive on a bit.”
Quaid also reflected on the joy of last year’s final and the celebrations that followed suit. Considering the side were on the brink of relegation in the 2020 campaign, it was a remarkable achievement for Effin.
“It was brilliant, just after the game you had all the supporters in Newcastle West, it was brilliant to meet them and get a few photos and things like that, especially after the last two years.”
Effin take on Bruff this Saturday in Kilmallock at 5pm in the first round of the Limerick Premier Intermediate Hurling Championship.
