Young Munster close in on play-off spot with win over Landsdowne | AIL Round Up

The battle for playoff places across all four divisions of the All Ireland League involving Munster sides intensifies with just three rounds of games remaining.

In Division 1A of the AIL, Young Munster moved closer to sealing their play-off spot whilst there were also wins for Old Crescent, UL Bohs and Bruff as well as Bohs in the Women’s AIL Cup series.

A second-half rally saw Young Munster come from 10-3 down at halftime to beat Lansdowne 15-10 on the back pitch of the Aviva Stadium, to maintain their promotion challenge in Division 1A. Stephen Lyons and Shay McCarthy scored tries for the Cookies’  and Evan Cusack kicked a conversion and a penalty.

A penalty from Mike Cooke was not enough for Shannon who lost at home 33-3 to leaders Clontarf.

Old Crescent defeated Navan 22-21 to earn four precious points in their bid to move away from the relegation zone in Division 2A.

At the foot of the table, UL Bohemian defeated Dolphin 27-24 thanks to a late try from Darragh O’Gorman to open up an eight-point gap ahead of their Cork opponents. Paul Clancy (2) an Jamie McNamara were UL Bohs other try scorers. Harry Byrne kicked two conversions and a penalty.

Bruff maintained their promotion push in Division 2C with a 15-13 home win against Bangor and are just four points behind Clonmel.

UL Bohemian continued their unbeaten run in the Women’s AIL Cup Series with a 43-11 away win against Blackrock College.
