Young Munster reach fourth successive Munster Senior Challenge Cup final

Young Munster held firm in the closing stages and an Evan Cusack penalty saw them reach their fourth successive final.

It will be a historic Bank of Ireland Munster Senior Challenge Cup final this year as holders Young Munster, who are bidding for a three in a row, face Nenagh Ormond in the decider.

Young Munster saw off the challenge of Cork Constitution at Tom Clifford Park on a 19-13 scoreline knocking the Cork side out of the competition for the third successive season. Tries from Stephen Lyons and Bailey Faloon and an Evan Cusack penalty gave Young Munster a 13-6 halftime lead.

Aidan Moynihan kicked two penalties for the home side. Cusack extended the home side’s advantage with a penalty before Con’ closed the gap to three points with a try from Billy Crowley, which Moynahan converted.

The Tipperary side will be the first side from the Premier County to contest a final. Nenagh Ormond booked their final spot with a comfortable 28-5 home win over Highfield.

Tries from Josh Rowland and willie Coffey, along with a conversion and a penalty from Patrick Scully gave Nenagh a 15-0 interval lead. A converted try by Scully and a Conor O’Brien penalty extended their advantage to 25-0 before Eoin Keating replied with a try for Highfield. O’Brien sealed the victory with a penalty.

UL Bohemian defeated Cooke 29-12 at the 4GUL in the Women’s All Ireland Cup series. The winners led 19-5 at the interval and had tries from Fiona Reidy, Niamh Kavanagh, Rachel Allen, Eilís Cahill, and Lily Brady. Kate Flannery kicked two conversions.

Ballincollig defeated Suttonians 15-10 at Tanner Park, with all the scores coming in the second half. Heather Kennedy scored two tries for Ballincollig, and Tiara Siguenza got their other try.
