Four goal Limerick too strong for Offaly in picking up first League win

Limerick concluded the League with a comprehensive win over Offaly in the TUS Gaelic Grounds.

The Shannonsiders condemned Offaly to the relegation play off with a 4-29 to 0-17 win, their first of the league.

The writing was in the wall when Oisin O’Reilly found the net after eleven minutes to put Limerick 1-5 to 0-3 to the good.

Offaly has the first score of the day but Limerick’s response cane from Diarmaid Byrnes, Aaron Gillane, Graeme Mulcahy and Gearoid Hegarty.

Gillane had a glorious chance for a second green flag but his effort blazed over.

Nonetheless, Limerick led 1-12 to 0-7 at the interval.

John Kiely’s side continued in the same vein to start the second half, with Byrnes, Gillane and Mulcahy troubling the scoreboard.

Cian Lynch did get Limerick’s second goal after 42 minutes after being set free from Oisin O’Reilly.

Barry Nash also hit the net after 58 minutes, applying the finishing touch after starting the move in his own half.

Substitute Pat Ryan showcased his worth with 1-2 from the bench, his goal coming with ten to play.

And in the end the gap was 24 with Limerick now looking forward to the first round of the Munster Championship on April 17 against Cork in Pairc Ui Chaoimh.
