Disappointment for Limerick sides in Munster Schools Junior Cup

Both Crescent College Comprehensive and Castletroy College lost out in their respective Munster Schools Junior Cup quarter-final ties against Cork opposition at the 4G pitch in UL today.

Castletroy were unlucky to lose out courtesy of a last stich penalty from Bandon Grammar who went on to record a 17-15 win, following a competitive back and forth battle on the artificial surface at UL.

Bandon took the lead following a scoreless 20 minutes, a converted try saw the Cork side take a 7-0 lead, while Jack Oliver cut the deficit to four points from a penalty on the stroke of half time.

It was the Limerick school who took the initiative after the restart as Evan O’Sullivan went over to make it 8-7, however Bandon hit back after that to retake the lead on a 14-8 score line.

Nesta Nyamakazi was almost the hero for Castletroy as he crossed the whitewash with Jack Oliver adding the extras to take the score to 15-14.

However, Bandon went on to secure the win with a penalty, as Castletroy suffered late heartbreak.

In the other game Crescent College suffered a 25-14 defeat at the hands of PBC.

The Cork side ran out comfortable winners, taking a 17-7 lead into the break before adding another try after the interval to go 22-7 to the good.

Crescent did manage to go within 8 points of the Cork side late on but PBC were to have the final say, kicking a penalty to record an 11 point victory.
