Footballers rue early concession of a goal as they fall to Carlow

Limerick’s promotion hopes look to be in tatters after they feel to defeat for the second consecutive week, with Carlow accounting for the Treaty side in the Gaelic Grounds yesterday. Despite, finding themselves behind for the majority of the game, Limerick to their credit never gave up a four unanswered scores at the end gave the 0-13 to 2-11 scoreline more respectability.

Carlow’s size advantage was obvious from the start with the Leinster side dominating around the middle third. Brendan Murphy in particular caused plenty of problems for Limerick with his ability in the air to the fore. On the bright side for Limerick however is that they have played the pre League favourites in the opening two games and the chances of promotion have yet to be ruled out, although they seem unlikely.

Limerick will look back at this game and rue the soft goals they conceded at crucial times in the game. These are mistakes that can be rectified as these players gain more experience at this level. Even in Carlow’s dominance, they found it hard to breach the Limerick defence with 1-5 of their scores coming from placed balls.

Billy Lee will be pleased with how his young side coped when trailing during the game refusing to lie down and give in. Two more players made their competitive debuts this weekend with Padraig De Brun and Tommy Griffin joining the six debutants from last weekend

Next up for Limerick is a trip to Ruislip to face a London side who were full value for their victory over Wicklow at the weekend. They will be confident of upsetting Limerick at home, but Billy Lee knows that his side have to get points on the board next Saturday if they are to keep their slim hopes of promotion alive.

Elsewhere in Division 4, as mentioned previously London had a dominant 1-16 to 0-10 victory over Wicklow. Antrim proved too much for Waterford in WIT, winning out 2-12 to 0-10. Laois maintained their 100\% record beating Leitrim by six points in a goalfest at Pairc Sean Mac Diarmada.

Limerick sit at the foot of the table alonsgide Leitrim who have also yet to pick up a point. Laois and Carlow lead with two wins from two each. Waterford, London and Wicklow have all picked up a solitary win.
