WATCH: Andrew Conway focused on “performing for Munster”

Munster travel to the Aviva this Saturday to take on rivals Leinster in the Pro 14, just a week removed from the recommencement of the Champions Cup. Leinster are the current holders of both competitions but will be up against one of their own in Joey Carbery for the first time this Saturday.

Another man who came from the Eastern Province is Andrew Conway who has grown substantially in his time with Munster. He is aware of the situation that will face Carbery, returning to his old club for the first time and acknowledges the different build up to such a game, especially considering Munster and Leinster’s storied rivalry.

“Yeah, you’re probably thinking about it that small bit more subconsciously. Each person is different but for me I’ll be thinking about it that bit more which hopefully is good… The first time you think about it that bit more. You’re eager to get out there and see what it’s like.”

With the Autumn internationals on the horizon and the World Cup just over twelve months away, these games often have an added intensity. With such competition for places on the Irish squad, Conway understands that players will be keen to impress but he is focusing on his job with his Province with whatever comes from that considered a bonus.

“I think these are the ones where the Irish management really look at them. The one on ones, your big game temperament, how you perform when the chips are on the down, when things are on the line so its definitely something your conscious of. But first and foremost, you’re talking about performing for Munster.”
