WATCH: John Ryan aware of “huge step up” ahead for Limerick Ladies in 2019

For John Ryan, 2018 will be looked upon fondly as his Limerick Ladies Footballers claimed their second ever All-Ireland Junior Championship.

Hopes are high in the county that Limerick can push on from this success and Ryan already has his sights set on next years campaign as his Limerick side will hope to regain promotion to Division 3 of the league as they did in 2016.

“We have to prepare now. We have to look to the NationalLeague. That’s going to be a big ask for us to try and get out there and get out of Division 4 and we have a big competitive summer ahead of us. It’s Intermediate, big step up, huge step up for us.”

Limerick are back in training already and are taken nothing for granted with a step up in competition guaranteed next year.

When Limerick claimed the Division 4 title in 2016, they followed it up the following year with a highly disappointing season that saw them relegated back to the bottom tier.

Ryan is looking to learn from those mistakes and is focused on getting a quality League campaign under their belts as they prepare for the Intermediate Championship.

“You’re taking every match as it comes. We’ve spoken to theplayers. They want to make sure that they do very well in the National Leagueand then when the National League is over, they’re preparing for the Intermediate championship.”
