LISTEN: Williams eagerly anticipating league opener

New Pike Rovers manager Robbie Williams is eagerly awaiting the beginning of the Limerick District League season and his managerial career with Pike Rovers tomorrow evening (Thursday). Pike begin their campaign at home with a game against league champions Janesboro.

Current Limerick FC player Williams was officially announced as Pike manager last week to replace Mick Shiel, who had been in charge for the previous 20 months.

Williams says it’s been a roller coaster so far but is delighted with his appointment.

It’s been a bit surreal but I know a lot of the lads anyway from around. We haven’t had much time on the training pitch so far.

We have only been on the training pitch once and had a game. We have two games this week as well so it’s all good so far

Williams will be combining his role as a player with Limerick FC with his managerial duties at Pike with a view to becoming player manager with the Hoops at the end of September.
