Na Piarsaigh and Ahane recorded vital wins in Limerick SHC

The torrential conditions counted for little as Na Piarsaigh continued their march in the Limerick Senior Hurling Championship with an emphatic 6-21 to 0-16 victory over newly promoted Monaleen at Claughaun last evening.

Twelve points ahead – on a scoreline of 3-12 to 0-9 – at the break, the margins of victory was the only question remaining for the remaining 35 minutes.

The 2015 All-Ireland club champions showed no sings of letting up with second half goals. Limerick’s David Dempsey was impressive throughout manning to find the net on three occasions.

Na Piarsaigh now sit top of Group in total control with three convincing wins from three played and already assured of a place in the knockout round. Next target will be securing an automatic semi-final place which they should achieve given their performances to date.

It was Monaleen’s first defeat of the championship, but the 2016 Premier Intermediate Champions will be relatively satisfied with their 3-point haul from 3 games.

Indeed they are still well placed to have a crack at the knock out stages with two games remaining. Last evening’s experience will leave them in no doubt as to the standard required to compete with one of the best sides in the championship.

In Group 1, Ahane eked out a hard fought two-point win over Bruff at Caherconlish. Having led 1-6 to 0-7 at the break, Ahane went on to finish on a total of 2-10 to Bruff’s 0-14.

Ahane now move on to 3 points with the win easing their relegation worries while Bruff must get something from their remaining games with Ballybrown and Kilmallock in order to avoid the drop.

Premier Intermediate Championship

Pallasgreen defeated Mungret St Paul’s 2-11 to 1-10, while Murroe-Boher edged Bruree 1-14 to 2-10, thanks to a Seanie Tobin pointed free in injury time.

Meanwhile, the county intermediate hurling championship fixture between St Kieran’s and Dromcollogher-Broadford ended in a draw, 2-7 to 0-13.
