Players who have played their way into Test contention.
With the final midweek match of the tour completed, Warren Gatland has been handed a welcome headache with the performances of a number of players in their 31-31 draw against the Hurticanes this morning.
Iain Henderson
After the 2015 RWC Iain Henderson was seen as a show in to start for the Lions two years later. However, injuries to the Ulster man along with the rise to prominence of Courtney Lawes, Maro Itoje and George Kruis have disrupted his progress.
Yetbon this tour Henderson has barely put a foot wrong and was at his brilliant best against the Hurricanes today. From his ball carrying to his ability at the ruck and in the line out, Henderson has put his hand up for a place in the 23 if not the XV
Courtney Lawes
Lawes is in a similar position as Henderson. Has been solid on the tour and was unfortunate not to make the 23 for the first test. The fact that he was replaced after just 53 minutes could signal that Warren Gatland has him in his plans for this Saturday’s crucial second test.
George North
Four years ago, George North was the face of the Lions. He took on Israel Folau, one of the worlds greatest backs and came out with a series win. Many expected North to go on to great things.
It hasn’t worked out like that for the Northampton man and he was left completely out of the 23 for the first test. Yet he may have a chance to prove himself of the back of a strong perform and this morning.
