Limerick District League Premier Division Round-Up

Ballynanty Rovers lead at the top of the Premier Division table was cut to one point following the club’s first dropped points of the season at Limerick Institute of Technology. Dave Dunphy’s side drew 1-1 with Tipperary outfit Nenagh AFC with Adrian Power scoring for Balla and Daniel Butler accounting for the goal for Cillian Fitzpatrick’s side.

Aisling Annacotty took full advantage of the minor slip from the northsiders as they comprehensively and surprisingly beat Prospect 10-1 on the grass pitch at Annacotty. It brings Annacotty’s scoring tally to 25 goals in four games so far.

Strikers Shane Clarke and Adam Foley both scored a hattrick while Keith Mawdsley bagged a brace. Shane Stack and Shane Tracy scored one each to maintain Aisling’s 100% start to the new season.

Pike Rovers picked up their fourth win of the campaign to keep pace with the leaders when they defeated Regional 3-0. In truth, the scoreline flattered Robbie Williams men as Regional had plenty of chances of their own. Eoin Hanrahan gave the Hoops a 1 goal lead at half time and Kieran Hanlon and Steven McGann sealed the win with two second half goals.

In the battle at the bottom of the table, Mungret Regional were the big winners with a narrow 0-1 victory over Geraldines at the Garryowen Green.

It is Derek Hannon’s side’s fifth defeat on the trot and is a real cause for concern, especially following home defeats to Coonagh and Mungret. Kian Barry scored the only goal of the game to send Eddie Storan’s side four points clear of the relegation zone.

Coonagh and Janesboro continued their solid starts to the new season with a 0-0 draw in Coonagh. Both sides sit comfortably in mid-table at present which will satisfy both management teams.

Fairview Rangers continued preparations for the FAI Junior Cup Final next weekend with a 1-6 away win over struggling Kilmallock at the county venue. Kilmallock are now four points from safety following Mungret’s win over Geraldines.
